Foster the People

Being a music aficionado is a double-edged sword when it comes to mainstream music. If you like it, you have no underground cred. Your taste can’t be relied upon by other people (people who you’d like to read Ve, perhaps). If you don’t like it, you’re a snobbish hipster, who goes out of his way to have self righteous music taste. What a stupid game to get into.

Anyway, I saw a commercial for this new song by this band called Foster the People, and I thought it was sort of catchy, then I listened to the song, and I thought it was kind of cool. It sort of draws from the indie rock tradition of passively, depressingly, encouraging violence (the man chorus goes ‘Better outrun my gun.’). It’s not the greatest song ever, but it’s a good, solid indie track.

Of course, the band looks like such a bunch of geeks that I opted to use an unrelated picture for this post.

So far I haven’t checked out the other songs on this album. Who knows when I’ll get around to that. For a long time, I only listened to Fuck Forever or I Turn My Camera On off of their respective albums, but when I finally did I was impressed by two wicked great records. However, Slow Hands was the only song I liked off of that album. Indie rock is weird.
