Maurice Spencer Teilmann is the kind of person who just bleeds good ideas when it comes to music. His band resume is impressive as all hell: The Gorgeous Armada, Bear Hunter, The Yule Logs, and his own singer-songwriter project turned insane Tony Clifton-esque comedy(?) act, Cat Like Reflexes. Everything he’s done is diligent, fresh, and smart.
He’s outdone himself this time though. Teilmann, soon to be leaving Chico, CA for Portland, OR, has ritualized his parting by producing Thank You Chico, Goodnight, a record of Chico musicians playing previously unrecorded songs about Chico. It’s an inspired, powerful little record that speaks volumes about the veritable cesspool of talent in the Chico music scene.
