Khanate is the kind of band that I’m surprised has any fans, and I’m not sure they would if they weren’t a supergroup. Their music does not elicit a euphoria in the listener, on any level. It’s dark, droning, and dismal. I feel like a lot of people probably hear them and wonder how anyone could appreciate it.
However, what these people fail to realize is how emotionally honest Khanate is. This is the most pure, most realistic expression of an actively painful depression that I’ve ever heard. I’ve never commit suicide, but I imagine that the feeling of terror, pain, mystery, and torment that goes into a suicide is similar to the feelings that come from listening to Khanate. It’s pure genius. Seriously.
