I work as a substitute teacher. Since I’m wet behind the ears when it comes to working as a teacher, the schools that call me the most are continuation schools, where most subs are terrified. So far subbing at continuation schools has been by and large a very positive experience. Not without its challenges by any means, but rewarding all the same. The kids and staff are all pretty awesome, so that helps.
Anyway, all the kids kept telling me I had to check out a late rapper from Antioch, CA (about 45 minutes outside of Oakland) named Woodie. I finally had the opportunity to listen to his album Demonz N My Sleep (download here) and it’s absolutely astounding. The way he busts out rhymes about some of the most brutal realities of the streets is so impressive. His flow is just phenomenal. I’m having trouble finding the right words to express how impressed I am with Woodie. Let me just say, that this is, to the best of my knowledge, the best, most flawless album to come out of California since Paris’ Sleeping With The Enemy. I want to force everyone on Earth to check this out. Real talk.
