The Capricorns have been around for a while now, and if you’d be into them, you’ve probably already heard them by this point. Still, they were absolutely killer and deserve to any recognition they get.
I first heard The Capricorns when someone handed me a demo of Pure Magical Love, their last album, telling me the band shared a member with Sleater-Kinney. They don’t, and I don’t know why he thought they did, but the album was still great. Banazan Records says,
Heather Lynn and Kirsten combine infectious hooks with “dear diary” lyrics to create pure pop bliss.
And you can dance to it.
and I don’t think I could come up with a description that’s much better than that. It definitely has the tone of a junior high school girl trying to fit in and writing pop music on her Casio in the 1980′s, but it’s more upbeat than what most people consider ‘Casiotone.’ Awesomely, you can download MP3s of two songs off of Pure Magical Love from the label’s website: Pure Magical Love and Runaway. Totally great shit.
