I had to check out this band just because of their name. I’ve never seen a band with a name like Apache, The, where they make the band name like it would be categorized. Something about their decision to do their name that way really resonates with me.
Apache, The was a short lived Utah band that put out one album before disbanding. I found out about them from Drew Danburry’s blog where he notes the band impressively were able to get their album cover done by renowned photographer Matt Mahurin.
For a while, there were a couple of Apache, The MP3s available for free. Alas, these promotional MP3s are no longer to be found. I hope you’ll be able to check out this band some other way. They have a down-to-earth indie sound that suggests they’re perhaps really into the music they make. I don’t know. It’s not the best sound I’ve ever heard, but it works. The name is really cool.
Fun fact: Some anthropologists believe that the word ‘Apache’ actually comes from the Apache word for ‘enemy.’ This might have been a term the Apache used for themselves after being forced into a war lifestyle by attacks from white settlers and Mexicans. This concept might play off stereotypes of Apache as brutal and pugnacious. I readily encourage any and all Ve readers to research Apache history and learn more about these sort of conundrums.
