I really, honestly, not-ironically, love the song You Oughta Know. It’s one of the best descriptions of post-breakup angst that I’ve ever heard. I think it’s up there with all of Hank Williams’ songs that are post-breakup. Okay, maybe it’s not that great, but it’s a very good tune.
So friends of Ve, I am dismayed, because besides that one song that is allegedly about Uncle Joey, I don’t feel like there’s anything within her body of work that I really enjoy. Ironic was kind of okay I guess. Thank You is just not good at all. I know she’s done other songs, but I have yet to convince myself she’s worth further inquiry. I saw her on MTV’s Cribs once (Which is an idiotic show and I’m embarrassed to admit that I was watching it) where Morissette was on. She lives in this boring ass apartment with all this new age crap. Also, she was in Dogma, which was a pretty funny movie, but it’s not like she made the movie funny or anything. She was also in an that episode of Sex And The City where Carrie decides she’s too old fashioned to date bisexual guys. So basically everything except for You Oughta Know I felt was just mediocre. It reminds me of eating unflavored tofu. You can eat it, but it seems so pathetic and unappetizing. I wish Alanis would do something besides one song that was just totally badass so that I could like her as much as I want to like her.
Alanis, if you’re reading this, please start a blackout grind band and write songs about irradiating religion and government. Thanks!
