Elitist

Have you ever been to a show with some pretty decent local bands and have an out of town band come in and just destroy every other band there? I was bummed that Elitist played second when I saw them in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago. Even though the bands that played after them were good, they just couldn’t match the savagery that Elitist brought to Sac’s favorite waiting room/underground show spot. Imagine fast parts that ripped like a less technical Converge cut with slow, feedback-laden Eyehategod-style sludge. Yeah, it was awesome. It was loud – very, very loud. I had guitar amp envy (for the nerds, this guy used both an Ampeg V4 and a Sunn Model T – at the same time). The band also makes liberal use of Satanic imagery; their merch looks more black metal than they sound.

Despite having very nice, clean hair and looking pretty put together, the singer went at least, if not more nuts, than the crusty types you usually see playing this type of thing.  Speaking of which, do we have a name for this music yet? There are a lot of bands pushing this music of hardcore, noiserock and doom out there right now –Unearthly Trance and Gaza come to mind immediately. I love it and I wish I could call it “metalcore”. That is a much more accurate term to describe Elitist than some band with a fifteen word long name that contains a day of the week or a season. Oh, and don’t get them confused with the techy metalcore band Elitist – totally different. Sorry I didn’t post a picture of the band, but it’s way too hard to rip off pictures from myspace now and I forgot to take my camera to the show. So here’s a picture of my torso, modeling one of their shirts. It depicts a scene I’m pretty sure is most Tea Partiers thing of when they imagine metal shows. PRAY TO THE SKY!!

can you see my baby beer gut?
