Terrific. It wasn’t enough that Die Antwoord produced the absolute worst rap song I’ve ever heard, and correlated it with the worst video I’ve ever seen (I’m not being hyperbolic here. It’s the worst.) It wasn’t enough that the band has made egregious deformations of fashion, music, and sexual expression that make my genitalia fear for its life, and have caused me to never want to learn anything about South African music ever again. It wasn’t enough enough that there’s no a picture on Ve of a woman in skintight golden pants bent over with her butt to the camera, expecting me to take her seriously (Note: in a different context, everything about that would be awesome).
Nope. To add to all that, Die Antwoord has to spread the word that ‘No Means Yes’ in their song $copie (Bringin’ back ‘$’ instead of ‘S.’ That can also be added to the list of horrid things they’ve done). I found an incredible pissed off rant here about Die Antwoord promoting rape culture, and it’s a totally great read. Seriously, fuck this rap group.
It shows you don’t know anything about these two besides watching a music video or two. Die Antwoord is one of Waddy Jones’ (the guy, Ninja) and Yolandi Visser’s (the girl) many performance art projects. One was called Max Normal.TV, another called The Constructus Corporation. The Ninja and Yolandi personalities is DA are acts. They and their lyrics are not to be taken as literal truth. Some think they are a parody of hip hop culture, that may be partly true. But IN NO WAY do these people actually condone rape, you’re an idiot if you thought that. By the way, that “article” by that pseudofeminist blogger was horrible. “Great read” my ass. She singled out one dumb girl who completely misunderstood the intent of a Die Antwoord lyric, and used her to paint DA and their entire fanbase as condoners of rape who are everything that’s wrong with music. Just dumb.

If you understood anything outside of the tiny bubble you must live in, you would understand that die antwoord and similar acts are parodies of the ultra-conservative afrikaans culture. You must just not get it. Might as well just stay at home.
