MRR Free Box Review #11: Monument To Theives – S/T

Photobucket

This is what I like about political hardcore— it’s authentic, and it encourages action, and it’s done by kids who are usually really awesome, and it inspires community. Monument To Theives has all these things going for it (I don’t know the people in the band, but I’m sure they’re nice people), and they’ve put out a terrific little album. It sort of feels like a preliminary work that a hardcore band might put out to have at some initial shows, just to get a fan base on board as quickly as possible. I don’t say that to belittle it. I say that because I think this album perfectly captures the fun, lively, eager spirit of the hardcore scene, without getting bogged down by all the drama that almost always works to oppress and disgrace a solid hardcore community. In short, this is the kind of music hardcore needs to see more of.
