MRR Free Box Review #10: Statutory Grape – Demo

Photobucket

When I was going through the free box at MRR, I grabbed this CD-R just because it had a picture of an ouroboros on it. I’ll check out anything with an ouroboros on it, and not so much that I care for the symbolism of the ouroboros or anything, but it’s a really badass word. ‘Ouroboros’ According to Encyclopedia Metallum there’s only three metal bands named Ouroboros, which to me is crazy, because who wouldn’t want their metal band to be named Ouroboros?

Anyway, about the demo. It’s just fucking awesome. Statutory Grape has a sound that is sort of like a cross between Dwarves, and Deadbolt, and Nebula, except that would probably sound awful and this doesn’t.

Most of the songs have spoken lyrics about dark and bizarre subject matter over spacey, sort of surfy guitars, and the whole thing has a very readily noticeable vibe of ‘I just don’t give a fuck.’ The stories to song that are on this demo are instantly entertaining and engaging. I think I’ll probably just let the MP3 speak for itself, since the sound of Statutory Grape is so unique, and enigmatic, and defies description.
