Happy Halloween! Yesterday I discovered, via this blog post, a quintessential example of a long forgotten novelty record that makes even the most hardened fans of novelty raise and eyebrow.
Freddy’s Greatest Hits, well, first of all, is it really appropriate to release a ‘greatest hits’ album from a fictional horror movie icon that hasn’t previously done anything even remotely like music? Anyway, Freddy Kruger only provides background vocals and ghastly commentary on this record, which features cheesy, mostly original, 80′s synth pop with some female vocalist, with lyrics generally discussing how there ain’t no party like a Kruger party coz a Kruger party don’t stop. The downtempo, slow song ‘Don’t Sleep’ is especially goofy. Are we supposed to slow dance to a song about how Freddy Kruger is going to kill us? Weird. I’d say it’s worth a listen, because it’s pretty far out, but it’s not my new favorite record by any means.
