I sort of hate it when bands name themselves after the frontperson’s last name. It’s not that I hate the ego-stroking of it, but it’s confusing, and unimaginative. ‘Van Halen,’ for example is a cool enough name for a band, but it calls into question how to categorize the band’s material in opposition to Eddie Van Helen’s solo material (should he produce any. I don’t even know if he has. I’m not that bullish on him.)
I say all this to call to attention WOJCIK, the new side project of the great singer-songwriter Hailey Wojcik, whom Ve talked about earlier. The band recently put their newly released EP up for a free download at their bandcamp website.
It’s sort of a driving, nice little rock album. Honestly, it’s not nearly my favorite work of her’s, but totally worth a listen.
