US Soldiers have to choose between Christian rock and janitorial duty.

The Huffington Post released this article a few days ago, which discusses a possible incident of religious enforcement in which a troop of soldiers were heavily encouraged to attend a concert by the all-female Christian rock band named BarlowGirl. All soldiers to opted not to attend the concert were forced to do maintenance duty (which to the best of my knowledge is like janitor stuff) and were not allowed to use the time for R&R.

One factor in this that the article ignores, and a factor that is more relevant to Ve, is that some people might have objected to the concert for purely aesthetic reasons. I listened to some tunes of BarlowGirl’s on their website, and it’s not total dog shit like the majority of Christian rock, but I think I’d still only want to sit through a live show of theirs for two or three songs before I’d be totally bored and leave.

No matter where you stand on the separation of church and state, I hope you can join me in saying we need to separate crappy music and state.
