TKA

When I was a young boy, there was some manner of delicious sugar cereal out on the market that was called Toasted Mini-Scones or something. It was basically small, crunchy cinnamon buns complete with frosting. I’m surprised my mother let my brother and I eat it.

Anyway, instead of the usual toys and temporary tattoos that were typically in cereal boxes at the time, Toasted Mini-Scones, being the hip new cereal for the 90′s, they gave out singles from Tommy Boy Records when you sent in a certain number of proofs of purchase.

For this reason, the first cassette tape that my brother and I ever owned, that wasn’t children’s music, was TKA’s I Won’t Give Up On You.  I was seven, so my brother would have been four. We would put on that tape and dance around the living room for hours and hours. We thought it was the coolest friggin’ thing ever.

And it was. TKA is so cool that they were claimed to be ‘the kings of freestyle’ but in response member Louis ‘Kayel’ Sharpe stated ‘There are no kings in freestyle.’ This is the music video for the song. It’s still wicked awesome after all these years. If my brother wasn’t in Germany right now, I’d call him up and dance with him over the phone.
