It would be really foolhardy of me to claim The Sonics the first horror-rock band. Not only because I certainly don’t know everything about horror-rock, but also, who’s to say what musician first thought to add horrific imagery to her music? Whoever did that certainly was brilliant. At any rate, The Sonics are certainly a notable and iconoclastic addition to the sphere of horror-rock. While their contemporaries were still writing relatively cute, whimsical ditties, The Sonics were doing songs like this:

Unlike so many worthwhile bands of the era, The Sonics have a well-deserved following. To that end, I’m not going to say that much about them. If you’re interested in learning more, then by all means, take a cruse on over to your favorite search engine.
