I can’t say I’ve heard every rock n’ roll scream out there, but I’ve heard a few, and I can say with certainty that the most insane, most unconventional, most jaw dropping rock n’ roll scream that I’ve ever come across can be heard right here:
Holy shit! Just holy shit!
Bunker Hill was the stage name/side project of accomplished gospel singer and heavyweight boxer Dave Walker, who for a long time was with the legendary Mighty Clouds of Joy. He took the name Bunker Hill, in the hopes that he could hide his rock n’ roll pursuits from The Clouds, worried that they would have seen it as a sacrilege. He scored a minor hit with his first release ‘Hide And Go Seek Part 1/2,’ which was released in two parts because it was too long to fit on one side of a 45. To get a more detailed account of the story, you may read this, or if you’re interested enough to get the dude’s whole life story (I was) you can read this. However, you will NOT find a darn thing about Bunker Hill on Wikipedia. To that end, I want to declare Bunker Hill a forgotten legend, because that scream certainly blows a whole lot of more famous rock n’ rollers out of the water.
