Weekly Rundown – Hyphy

Hyphy is perhaps more of a movement than an style of music. It began as a corruption of ‘hyper’ that Keak Da Sneak coined based on his childhood mispronunciation of the word. After using the word extensively to describe reckless, wild behavior, San Francisco Bay Area rappers began recognizing certain styles and behaviors as ‘hyphy.’ These are included but not limited to:

1. Ray-Ban Aviator Sunglassed (‘Stunner Shades’ in hyphy lingo)
2. Dreadlocks
3. Ghost Riding The Whip, which is putting a car in neutral, and then having a dance party around it while it slowly coasts down the street. Please note that this activity is not dangerous in the slightest and has never had any negative results.
4. Thizzle Dancing
5. Goin’ Dumb

Since I myself spent last night going hyphy with a bottle of whiskey at a friend’s house, I’m running a little late, so I’m afraid Ve is going to forgo descriptions of the artists. They’re all worth checking out. Promise.
