Mama Yancey – Easy Rider

Okay, this video quality is crap, but at least it’s something. Estelle ‘Mama’ Yancey died pretty soon after this was made, so it’s really nice that we have something. Yancey is known mostly for the work she did with her husband, Jimmy Yancey, but in my mind was pretty accomplished in her own right. She continued to sing and record after his death in 1943, until she died in 1986, so clearly, she ought not to be under his shadow. Can you dig it?
