Lead Belly – Pick a Bale of Cotton

In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve had the blues mighty strong these days. I haven’t been feeling blue in the sense that I’ve been depressed, but oh man, I’ve been listening to blues music pretty constantly for the last month or so. At any rate, I found this incredible Lead Belly video last night. According to the video description, this video was shot in 1945, which is when Lead Belly was in California recording for Capitol Records. From what I can figure out, it’s legitimate. Surprising, because from what I can tell colour television still hadn’t caught on by 1945. Although, according to this article, the film was lip synced over a recording done earlier (which I suppose isn’t surprising). If anyone knows more about Lead Belly, colour television, or anything else pertinent to authenticating this video, I’m all ears.
