Ve hasn’t talked much about country music up to this point. That’s not right. So both as retribution, and because it’s worth checking out, Ve presents Day of the Outlaw.
I have mixed feelings about this band. It sort of seems like it utilizes twangy, tired cliches, but at the same time, I can’t think of any other band that sounds quite like this. It’s a very dark style of country, and especially given the subject matter of the following music video, it almost seems like it has more in common with film noir than traditional country cliches.
I guess ‘intrigued’ would be the best way to describe my reaction to DOTO. They take a dark, brooding sort of country, but at the same time could easily be described as punk rock. Check out their website with a wacky, exciting border that could easily be from just about any band on Epitaph. I for one will certainly make a point to keep looking into this band.
‘Noir Country.’ I like the sound of that.
