A while back, Del-Fi Records released a wicked incredible collection of novelty surf songs that had, for one reason or another been previously unreleased, as well as several just plain rare songs, on a record called Lost Treasures (Wow. Run on sentence. I know.) A cat named Bob Ridgley had two songs on the album, and they’re both just off the hook. My favorite of the two was ‘She Was A Mau Mau,’ which tells the tale of a wild and crazy woman met in the jungle. Granted, the verse doesn’t really lend itself to the rest of the song, since a mau mau is a kind of fish, but nonetheless it’s a terrific song.
