A lot of people are down on ‘tough guy’ hardcore. Bully for them (no pun intended) but I really like a lot of it. I’ve been listening to Blood For Blood the past couple of days, and they’re great.
Blood For Blood is from Boston, MA, a town which is known for being rather pugnacious (Well, The Departed had a big influence on how I view Boston). They play songs targeted against a society that they see as engineered to keep them down. Unfaithful women, upper class smugness, and ‘the whole motherfukkin’ human race’ get a thorough ribbing from the band. Of course, true friendships that one can depend on are praised by the band. It’s a pretty typical tough guy hardcore setup. Still, it’s good, solid, fun music. If it weren’t so heavy and fast, it could be drinking music you sing with your friends. I’m totally loving it.
