Crystal Castles

This song is called ‘Knights.’ Next time you get bored, sing the ‘blah blah blah blah’ part that sort of sounds like crying— at the top of your lungs. It’s fun.

Sometimes, I wish I didn’t even know who Crystal Castles are. No matter how you feel about the band, hipsters somewhere are going to hate your guts. I remember when I first found their myspace a couple of years ago and I thought, man, this is the best band I’ve heard in a long time. They were by no means an unheard of band then and they’ve really blown up now, which makes all the player haters bear their little fangs and decry themselves too cool for it.

I don’t player hate, but still, I gotta admit, I’ve listened to their first album about a million times. There are some styles of music that at first you feel so so about and gradually grow to love. I never got into a single Sleater-Kinney album until the fourth or fifth listening. However, I was fiendish about Crystal Castles from the first listen, but while I can still put on a Sleater-Kinney album and find it interesting and endearing, Crystal Castles is starting to wear on me. It’s like when you buy a new package of sugar cereal, you know you shouldn’t eat it all at once, but you do anyway and by the umpteenth bowl you feel sickly and gross. So I have trouble saying the Crystal Castles are as great of a band as all the non-player haters find them to be, but at the same time, they’ve taken electronic music and done something with it that I haven’t seen before or since, so they’re certainly worth regarding for that fact.

Yeah, you know what? I like Crystal Castles. Fuck haters.
