Boy Tiger was a one-person band from Chico, CA that developed a small following for being cute, honest, and lovable. It was the quintessential ‘I just learned how to play guitar and now I’m signin’ my heart out.’ type of acoustic singer-songwriter act. Songs ranged from quiant covers of Tom Waits and The Velvet Underground, to Sadomasachistic fantasies and haunting depression.
After a few years of establishing Boy Tiger as the café music darling of Chico, the sole member, Johnny Miller, came out as a transsexual man and began transitioning physically, a topic that sometimes came into the bands music. Ultimately, Miller’s newly pronounced queer identity took on a life of it’s own, and he moved to the San Leandro, CA, where performs drag shows under the moniker ‘Ms. Prick’ and goes to art school. Ms. Prick informed me the last time I spoke with her that Boy Tiger is a source of creative expression that Miller didn’t feel was able to accurately represent who he was or what he wanted to get across. Miller’s new adventures, however, are anything but uncreative.
